Not Again!!!

Poor little CJ has ANOTHER ear infection!!! I thought after the tubes and the hospital that we were done with this. Poor little guy. Well in good news, at least he is not miserable this time. He is not unhappy or lethargic or acting sick or any of the things that he has been in the past. In fact, you would never even know he was sick at all. He has been playing and laughing and in a great mood, and learning new words every day. He has even been enjoying daycare more. But over the weekend he randomly spiked a fever. It went down right away and he has not really had one since, but he has been pulling at his right ear and I looked and there was some waxy stuff in there so I thought well better to be safe than sorry. I was hoping that I was being overcareful. Unfortunately I was not. So I took him to the ENT on Tuesday and sure enough the right ear is infected again. The left ear the one he had the surgery on looks great, but now the right one is infected. Sigh. Poor little guy. So the ENT did a culture which they are supposed to get the results for by the end of the week. He has a follow up with the ENT on Tuesday. The doctor kind of went back and forth and then decided that he does not want him to go back to daycare until he sees him in follow up. He said that he is not contagious, but he wants to get the culture results to make sure before he sends him back. He said this could be something he picked up again at daycare, from his cold or something. It might be totally unrelated to the problems he has had before or it might be completely related. I guess they will not know until they get the culture. Sooo....Phil took a bunch of work home with him and stayed home with him yesterday. And we have another babysitter through the same agency who will stay with him until Tuesday until we figure out what to do next. So no vacation time used yet. Sigh. So here we go again.....I am really tired and a little overwhelmed. As I said at least he is not miserable this time. He is in good spirits and seems to be feeling well otherwise. He is playing, laughing, eating, all that good stuff. But I have just had it with these ear infections. Enough is enough. This poor little guy. He is such a good boy and has been such a trooper. He does not deserve to have another ear infection. :( I am passing out early every night and I got to sleep in a little today, until 7:30, woot, but still I am exhausted all the time from worrying. I don't know what we are going to do, but I am seriously rethinking his daycare situation. Although it seems like this would probably happen at any center. It seems like kids in daycare get sick, especially when they are new to daycare and have not been exposed to anything. So I am wondering if I should look into a daycare at someone'e house or something. I don't really know if that would help. Germs are germs and kids have them and pass them on. Honestly, I just wish I could be home with him again. It seems like things were so much easier and happier when we were home together. I miss being with him at home. I am not sure either of us have really adjusted to being in daycare and work yet. I know it is good for him to socialize and meet other little kids and he was having fun at daycare, when he can actually go. But still...I wish we could have a little longer together at home. I would take him to playgroups. Oh well. We gotta do what we gotta do. We will just hang in there and take it one day at a time. I will let everyone know how the ENT appt. goes. Wish us luck and send me more comments!! I don't get very many. Wish us luck and hope that maybe we will actually have some vacation time to go on vacation. :P Oh and this kid better have a great immune system built up when all is said and done.

Poor CJ!

My brother has always had problems with his ears. He had tubes when he was little and still has to get them from time to time as an adult. I think some people are just more predisposed to ear infections than others. And my mom stayed home with us kids, too. So, I'm thinking that maybe CJ would get them even if he wasn't in daycare. Maybe not as often, but it probably wouldn't make that big of a difference overall.

And it will get better eventually. All my friends who have had babies in the past year or two are constantly telling me how their kid is ALWAYS sick since starting daycare. Hopefully, he’ll have the immune system of steal by the time he starts PK!

But since I don’t have kids (and can’t really relate to what you are going through with CJ) I’ll tell you about my dog, Gypsy Kitty. Yes. My dog. That’s how I am going to relate to you on this. Brace yourself. Ready? Okay, here I go:

Gypsy gets (on average) three or four ear infections a year. Mostly YEAST INFECTION (ew!), but sometimes she gets ear mites in there, too (double ew!). This seems to happen regardless of how often I clean and/or flush her ears out. Her poor ears turn all red and she digs at them with her paws all the time. And then when I try to touch the offending ear she squeaks and cries like I’m torturing her or something. I always feel very guilty, because I think I should know by now how to keep her from getting ear infections. Instead, I just recognize the symptoms of an ear-about-to-go-wrong so I can get her to the vet before she turns into a pathetic puppy puddle. And Haskell? Yeah, he’s never had problems with his ears (knock on wood), but I’m not convinced there is very much between his ears except air anyway (poor guy!).

Also: Gypsy has a lot of problems with her anal glands, but I’ll spare you the details on that. :P

Anyway, that’s my meager attempt to relate to your son’s ear woes. I do hope CJ gets better soon, though. Give him a hug from his Auntie Deals! XOXO!

Thanks guys!!! I appreciate all the support. Dealey, you always make me giggle which always makes me feel better!!! Poor Gypsy Kitty and sweet sweet great roommate Haskell. Send them love from their favorite house guests!!! And thanks again, you made me feel a lot better, especially your point about how some kids just get ear infections even if they stay home. I am just missing those stay at home days right now. I miss you, see you next Sunday, right? Love you much!! :) Thanks everyone for the kisses and hugs and good wishes, I will pass them on to the little guy. Luckily he is not acting sick at all and is in good spirits. Love to all!! :)

I am SO sorry about CJ I'm glad it's not as bad as they have been...
I centainly hope Addie doesn't have to go through the ear stuff, but a lot of kids do.
My brother had bad ear infections too. He had 3 sets of tubes in...
We hope CJ will feel better soon!!
